President Elect

Jesse Jenson B.S., CRCST, CIS, CHL:

Surgical Care Affiliates (Currently a MCI Board Member)

If elected President of MCI, I would have three goals which I’d like to see us accomplish during my tenure.

1.    Better Serve the Membership. I believe that any local chapter such as MCI should serve its membership by pooling its resources in order to help smaller organizations that haven’t got the same capabilities or opportunities. What I mean by this, is that there are smaller hospitals and surgery centers who are not privileged to have a supervisor or manager of SPD on-hand; often, this role falls to Materials or the OR. Without someone dedicated to this field, some areas of expertise can fall to the wayside and produce potential for mistakes. What I’d like to see are;

a.    Position papers from MCI that address common questions that don’t have a consistent answer.

b.    A holistic, comprehensive, shared vision for what a central service technician should be capable of. Two reasons.

  1. We lose staff to each other. It would be nice to know we’ve a shared idea of competency.

  2. It would be beneficial for us to provide this information to anyone teaching CS courses, that they might understand regional expectations.

c.     Quarterly projects that MCI-active members can take back to their departments; topics such as auditing, proper PPI usage, etc.

2.    Develop Tomorrow’s CS Leaders. While we’ve spent a lot of time discussing how to “bring in frontline staff,” the hard truth is that frontline staff will rarely have the opportunity to leave work for our meetings like many departmental leaders can. We need to focus on bringing leaders in by approaching surgical facilities across the state. Further, I believe it would be beneficial that we then focus on leader development among the MCI membership. I believe that we’ve a profession that is coming out of the woods and, due to this nature, we’ve not received much of the leader development that we perhaps should have. I believe that MCI should help remedy this by…

a.    Holding an optional book club dedicated to leadership development.

b.    Seek experienced leaders who are willing to devote some of their time to mentoring new leaders.

c.     Dedicating a number of nights during the year to socializing and fellowship.

3.    Become A Truly Statewide Organization. Finally, I wish to see MCI truly embrace the “M” in our name. I want to see MCI become a truly statewide organization with active members across the state. There are hospitals and surgery centers all across our state, many of them not participating in our group. I fear an eventual split or loss of potential voices to other states. I believe we do this by…

a.    Encouraging regional MCI groups. Someone from International Falls is not going to make the drive every/every other month to meet up for MCI. But something closer might help.

b.    Committing ourselves to peer outreach by better utilizing our Membership Committee and those who are willing to help; a goal of reaching out to every hospital within a year.

c.     Continuing our experiment with hosting MCI meetings at non-metro facilities.

d.   If elected, these would be my focus and goals.

Thank you for your consideration. Jesse

Steris; IMS Senior Account Manager

As a member of IAHCSMM for the past 7 years, as well as a Certified Central Service Vendor Partner and current Secretary of the Board, it would be an honor to return in the role of Secretary.  I believe in my current position, both as a vendor-partner and member of the larger IAHCSMM community I can bring a unique outside perspective, beyond the role of merely taking notes and distributing communications.  I have 15 years industry experience, and having observed and been part of the evolution both of our local healthcare landscape as well as the growth of our local MCI Chapter, I can continue to play an integral part in the future expansion of our dedicated MCI team of professionals.

I would consider it a tremendous privilege to be considered again as Secretary for the MCI Board.

Evan Trosvik, CRCST, CIS

SPD Educator at Maple Grove Hospital

 â€‹

  • I have been in Sterile Processing/ Central Supply for six years across three hospitals. Over those six years I have absorbed information and used my knowledge to help others learn, bringing me to my current role of SPD Educator at Maple Grove Hospital.

  • I want to be a part of the MCI board to help the organization grow and serve the ever-increasing population of technicians in the area. Being a part of MCI is something I am passionate about, from using my own PTO to attend meetings to taking time to brainstorm solutions to issues that the organization needs to address.

  • I want to see the group bring more knowledge and support to frontline staff, by holding technician oriented workshops, and providing a place for people to ask questions with the assurance that they will receive a reputable answer.

  • I feel that there is a lot of growth that our industry is going through, and that MCI can, and should be a leader in ensuring that our area hospitals, surgery centers and clinics have access to the knowledge and experience that they need to provide unparalleled patient care.
